IHC Expands Space Footprint with 80% Acquisition of Marlan Holding
Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Company (IHC) is expanding its presence in the space sector through the acquisition of an 80% stake in UAE-based Marlan Holding via its subsidiary, International Tech Group, according to a statement to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
The acquisition reflects IHC’s strategic focus on expanding its investments in the space industry, as the group continues to broaden its portfolio across sectors and technologies with future growth potential. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Marlan Holding, the parent company of Marlan Space, is a key player in the space technology sector. In August 2024, Marlan Space partnered with US-based Loft Orbital to establish Orbitworks, a $100 million initiative focused on developing commercial satellites for low Earth orbit (LEO).
IHC’s acquisition is expected to strengthen investments in satellite infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and emerging space technologies, further supporting the group’s presence in the sector.
Syed Basar Shueb, CEO of IHC, highlighted the critical role of space in advancing communications, Earth observation, data, and artificial intelligence, underscoring the strategic importance of these technologies in strengthening competitiveness in global markets.
With IHC becoming the majority shareholder of Marlan Holding, Marlan Space is positioned to pursue new opportunities across the global space economy. Hamdullah Mohib, CEO of Marlan Space, expressed optimism that IHC’s backing would accelerate the company’s efforts to capitalize on emerging opportunities and further strengthen its position in the space industry.
The expansion comes as part of IHC’s diversified portfolio, which includes more than 1,300 subsidiaries. During the first half of the year alone, the group deployed $3.8 billion across associates, joint ventures, and financial and real estate assets.
IHC’s move into space technologies reflects its broader strategy of diversifying investments and expanding into sectors positioned for future growth.
